Apple Introduces QuickTime Version Of
Award-Winning Planning Guide For Educators
DALLAS, Texas--June 15, 1992--Apple Computer, Inc. today unveiled its
QuickTime version of Teaching, Learning & Technology--A Planning
Guide, a comprehensive tool designed to help educators and school
districts with their curriculum planning processes.
QuickTime is Apple's technology that enables users to display and
play video clips and sound on an Apple Macintosh personal computer.
With the QuickTime version of the planning guide, users can create,
edit and present educational plans--all on the same computer. Users
can view any QuickTime video in a window on screen, or show the video
as a full-screen slide presentation. For presentations to an
audience, a projection device can also be added.
With today's announcement, there are now three versions of Teaching,
Learning & Technology--A Planning Guide. The Basic Kit is print-
based and includes a videotape. The two computer-based interactive
kits include the Basic Kit components, and allow users to combine
audio and video segments with text to support the planning process.
Specific elements of each version include:
1) The Basic Kit
-- Teaching, Learning & Technology Workbook--a step-by-step
planning tool that guides education professionals through the
entire planning process while providing examples, case studies and
numerous resource lists;
-- Plan Template Disk--formatted templates for organizing a plan;
-- Workbook Duplication Masters--provides each planning team member
with a workbook copy for collaborative activities;
-- "Learning": Video--a series of educational dramatizations
depicting possible classroom scenarios.
2) Interactive Kit/Videodisc
The Interactive Kit/Videodisc version includes all the elements of
the Basic Kit plus:
-- Map--a guide to the audio, video and textual contents of the
Interactive Kit;
-- Quick Start--a "getting started" tutorial detailing how to
organize the computer equipment;
-- CD-ROM Disk--two hours of audio success stories featuring
teachers and administrators discussing how to develop a viable plan
for integrating technology into the curriculum;
-- Videodisc--an hour of success stories and planning tips from
schools across the country examining the role of technology in
education.
3) Interactive Kit/QuickTime
The Interactive Kit/QuickTime version includes all the elements of
the Basic Kit plus:
-- Interactive Planbook--an improved QuickTime version;
-- Map--a guide to the audio, video and textual contents of the
Interactive Kit;
-- Notepad--lets users collect information for use in their plan;
-- On-Screen Guide--points out available features to users
throughout the planning process;
-- Contextual help--instructs users how to use each feature when
they're ready for it;
-- CD-ROM Disk--contains the software and QuickTime versions of two
hours of audio interviews and one hour of video clips of teacher/student
technology success stories.
"We've created three different versions of the planning guide so
educators can select the kit most appropriate to their individual
settings and access to technology," said Sue Collins, Apple
Computer's Senior Manager of Strategic Initiatives and Education
Reform. "Each version provides institutions, administrators or
educators with flexible tools that help them with the curriculum
planning process."
Teaching, Learning & Technology--A Planning Guide has received two
national awards this year for its design. The CINDY award, presented
by the Association of Visual Communicators, was awarded in February
to the planning guide in the Interactive Video and Multimedia
category. A Silver Apple was awarded to the guide in May by the
National Educational Film and Video Festival in the Interactive
Media: Training/Information category.
